About The Position

Under the General Supervision of the Office of the Commissioner, this employee will be primarily responsible for providing computer technical support, end user problems, work in computer-based information systems, software applications, web resources, computer hardware, and any network and enterprise systems. Employee will serve in a Territory-wide capacity. This work involves the handling of highly confidential data and material. Employee establishes and maintains databases applicable to the day-to-day operations of the Department. Employee will also partake in all policy-making decisions and recommendations relative to the handling of the department’s information technology workload and provide instructional services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized institution of higher learning in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Processing, or any other closely related field and two (2) years Technical Computer/Networking experience or related work OR Associate degree from a recognized institution of higher learning in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Processing, or any other closely related field and four (4) years Technical Computer/Networking experience or related work.
  • Extensive knowledge in the field of Information Technology, local area networks, servers, computer operating systems, and other related systems to include troubleshooting.
  • Must have knowledge of programming, software, hardware, computer science in order to demonstrate proficiency.
  • Must be able to comprehend detailed computer instructions.
  • Ability to handle multiple roles simultaneously.
  • Excellent information technology communications, leadership and management skills.
  • Must have a track record of maintaining the integrity of information technology structures.
  • Knowledge of local and federal laws, departmental and GVI rules, regulations and policies.
  • Knowledge of a variety of network management software.
  • Knowledge of servers, routers, firewalls, ISP’s, software and any other knowledge within the information technology field.
  • Knowledge of the interconnectivity of the GVI’s enterprise resource system, contact with internal and external users of the enterprise.
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers; establish and maintain effective working relationship with employees and all individuals in this line of work.
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and follow oral and written instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Assess network infrastructure on a regular basis to ensure it meets the necessary demands of the department.
  • Coordinate between the department and vendors as well as any contractors about the Information Technology infrastructure and development, as well as consult on any potential issues, potential remedies, recommendations or efficiency controls.
  • Diagnose and remedy problems encountered by end-users.
  • Load and configure software and applications.
  • Website maintenance and updates of information.
  • Installs and configures server workstations including operating systems, network devices and printers.
  • Provide troubleshooting assistance primarily in determining the cause of system failures due to malfunctions or any other issues.
  • Maintenance of all hardware to include printers and desktop computers.
  • Conduct monthly division site assessments to ascertain any problems and provide technical assistance.
  • Create electronic data back-up to prevent the loss of information.
  • Log and report all problems received in a monthly report to the Commissioner.
  • Receive, create, evaluate, and close trouble tickets.
  • Implement security measures and protect the department’s data from any outside infiltration.
  • Installation of any new hardware or software and provide training to employees of its use.
  • Offer suggestions for maintenance, upgrades, and improvements on the department information technology infrastructure.
  • Stay up-to-date on emerging technologies and the possible effectiveness of these advancements on the current network system.
  • Point of Contact for the Stats Systems through Administration
  • Required to travel between districts.
  • Performs other related work as required.
