About The Position

This position is a DOD Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system position in the Excepted Service under 10 USC 1599f. Employees occupying CES positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is located at the 59th Signal Battalion, located in Fort Wainwright, Fairbanks, Alaska. Duties include performing system administrative duties to ensure optimal functioning for the Windows local servers and network. The role involves developing utility software to ensure compatibility between operation systems, domains, file access methods, and installed programs. It also requires responding to system failures caused by software and hardware deficiencies and implementing procedures to meet installation requirements by configuring the computers, subsystems, and peripherals involved.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Three year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Temporary duty travel may be required up to 10%.
  • Lifting up to 35 pounds.
  • May be required to work shift hours, such as 2nd shift.
  • May be required to respond to call outs and/or work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays to provide 24-hour continuous coverage of the SIPRNet and NIPRNet networks.
  • This position is designated Tier 5, Critical or Non-Critical Sensitive, High Risk and requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Security Clearance Level as a condition of employment.
  • This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program in accordance with AR 600-85.
  • Signing of a DA Form 5019 (Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program) acknowledging periodic random drug testing requirements is mandatory prior to being placed into this position.
  • Those individuals not currently occupying a TDP position must successfully complete a pre-appointment drug test prior to being placed into this position and periodically thereafter.
  • In accordance with DoDM 8140.03 and supplemental Army guidance, the employee must obtain and maintain the following requirements for each Cyber work role (except Data, AI, and/or Software Engineering) at the assigned proficiency level: 1) Foundational qualification requirements within 9 months, 2) Resident qualification requirements within 12 months, 3) 20 hours of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) per work role code (which can overlap).
  • This position has been designated mission essential. Employee may be required to remain on duty or report for duty during severe weather or other installation closings.
  • May be required to work overtime and other than normal duty hours which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Call back and emergency duty are regular requirements of this position.
  • Cyber Security Certifications required for this position: 450-Systems Administration, 410-Customer Service and Technical Support, 530-Incident Response.
  • Applicant must have one year of directly applicable experience that demonstrates the possession of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position.
  • Qualifying experience may have been acquired in any public or private sector job but will clearly demonstrate past experience in the application of the particular competencies or knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position.
  • The specialized experience must include, or be supplemented by, information technology related experience (paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training, as appropriate) which demonstrates each of the four competencies, as defined: (1) Attention to Detail, (2) Customer Service, (3) Oral Communication, (4) Problem Solving.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • This position requires a 3 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
  • Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
  • Incumbent (or Selectee) is required to satisfactorily complete the appropriate training and obtain the required certification/recertification for this position as outlined in DoDM 8140.03 Cyberspace Workforce Qualification and Management Program dated 15 February 2023.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance of AUDS End User Devices (EUDs), servers and databases.
  • Troubleshooting hardware and/or software problems on unit servers.
  • Implementing procedures to meet installation requirements and security protocols for systems.
