About The Position

As an Information Technology Generalist 1 with the Department of Corrections (DOC), you play an important role in keeping essential technology operating smoothly throughout the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Mahanoy. You bring solid technical knowledge that helps staff overcome challenges, maintain reliable systems, and ensure that daily operations run without interruption. Your expertise meets complex technology demands with confidence and precision. This position gives you the opportunity to make a strong impact through hands-on, high-value work across a wide range of technology needs. This position provides technical support for the computer systems, network equipment, and user applications at the State Correctional Institution at Mahanoy. The role helps ensure that technology functions properly and supports daily operations across the facility.

Requirements

  • One year as an Information Technology Trainee or Information Technology Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Three years of information technology experience in applications development or applications maintenance, networking or desktop services, web site development or web site design, or other information technology support/administration services; or One year of information technology experience in applications development or applications maintenance, networking or desktop services, web site development or web site design, or other information technology support/administration services, and an associate's degree in any information technology field; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assist users by diagnosing issues and resolving hardware and software problems
  • Set up PCs, install software, and configure systems to meet departmental requirements
  • Troubleshoot connectivity issues and support the functionality of the local area network (LAN)
  • Maintain accurate equipment records and complete facility-wide inventories
  • Train staff on hardware, software, and system updates to support effective use
  • Implement network security measures and manage user accounts to protect network resources
