DESCRIPTION OF WORK This position provides nursing care and treatment to individuals with physical or mental health needs at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Mahanoy. The role supports secure, effective patient care across daily and emergency situations.
Requirements
- Active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
- All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
- If you are within 60 days of graduating from a school of nursing approved by the State Board of Nursing, you are eligible to apply for this job posting.
- At the time of appointment to a position, you must show proof of possession of a current, valid PA temporary practice permit or PA Registered Nurse license.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Check vital signs, administer medications, perform treatments, and assist with examinations
- Evaluate patient needs, provide education, and support daily living and hygiene activities
- Perform assessments, provide first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), or automated external defibrillator (AED), and refer patients for further care
- Document care, maintain medical records, prepare reports, and track controlled substances
- Sterilize equipment, monitor inventory, and maintain adequate treatment supplies
- Participate in training programs and maintain knowledge of policy and procedure updates
