About The Position

The Infectious Disease Prevention Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and enhancing infectious disease prevention and control programs through operational leadership, quality improvement, and evidence-informed practice. Serving staff, leadership, community partners, and the public, the role provides guidance, consultation, and oversight to support effective case, contact, and outbreak management while ensuring compliance with legislative, privacy, and public health requirements. The Coordinator drives program consistency, operational excellence, and continuous improvement through auditing, evaluation, and process enhancement activities. Through collaboration and public health expertise, the role advances equitable, culturally responsive services that strengthen departmental accountability and improve population health outcomes.

Requirements

• Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an accredited University or Diploma in Practical Nursing from an accredited college
• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as either a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse
• Two years recent experience in public health programs or in a hospital setting with experience in infectious disease.
• Previous experience working as a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse
• In depth knowledge of Ontario Public Health Standards and applicable protocols
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and political acuity
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365, collaboration tools, and emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools
• Demonstrated ability to apply nursing judgement, and critical thinking skills to assess complex situations, identify risks, and support evidence-informed decision-making
• Strong analytical and problem-solving with the ability to interpret data and develop practical solutions to programs and operational challenges
• Strong knowledge of privacy, confidentiality, data stewardship, and audit practices related to systems containing personal health information, including ministry reporting systems and other public health information systems
• Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize workloads

Nice To Haves

• Minimum 5 years previous experience working in public health, community health, hospital or area related to the areas of infectious diseases.
• Supervisory or team lead experience.
• Training and/or certification in project management.
• LEAN Six Sigma training or certification.
• Leadership training.
• Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC).
• Experience in quality improvement, change management, and program coordination within a public health or healthcare setting

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance to staff to ensure compliance with legislation, standards, policies, and procedures.
• Coordinate day-to-day infectious disease prevention operations, including case, contact, and outbreak management activities.
• Advise leadership on program priorities, emerging issues, and operational challenges.
• Collaborate with community partners and stakeholders to advance infectious disease prevention initiatives.
• Evaluate program performance, identify gaps, and recommend evidence-informed improvements.
• Lead privacy, data quality, and performance audits to ensure compliance, accuracy, and accountability.
• Analyze audit findings, identify risks and trends, and support corrective actions and workflow enhancements.
• Develop and implement operational procedures, documentation standards, and process improvements.
• Facilitate program planning, intervention development, and the adoption of evidence-informed practices.
• Prepare policies, reports, proposals, and other program documentation to support decision-making and accountability.
• Engage on committees, project teams, and working groups to support organizational and public health priorities.
• Promote equity, cultural safety, accessibility, and inclusive practices across all program activities.
