About The Position

The Infant/Toddler Program Assistant helps create a fun, engaging, and safe environment where children can grow and learn while upholding YMCA values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. The role is part of a nurturing, mission-driven environment that supports the growth and development of both children and employees. This is a part-time position at Speer YMCA Preschool Academy in St. Petersburg, Florida. Pay is $15.00–$20.00 per hour, based on experience. Employees receive a free YMCA membership, with a family discount.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of DCF MODS (Introductory Child Care Training, Parts 1 & 2).
• At least 1 year of experience working with children in a developmental setting.
• Able to work with infants, toddlers, and young children indoors and outdoors.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, talk, hear, and lift up to 40 lbs.
• Must be comfortable participating in activities and engaging physically with children.
• Vision requirements include close and distance vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
• Pass a 10-panel drug screen.
• Clear a Level 2 background check through DCF (Florida).

Nice To Haves

• CDA credential or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Help provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for young children.
• Support lead teachers with daily activities and classroom supervision.
• Foster the YMCA's core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
• Assist with implementing curriculum and guiding structured and free-play activities.
• Promote positive behavior and help maintain classroom routines.
• Attend to children's basic needs, including meals, rest, and outdoor play.
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and family engagement events.
