About The Position
The Infant Program Assistant helps create a fun, engaging, safe, and nurturing environment where children can grow and learn while upholding YMCA values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. The role supports lead teachers with classroom activities and supervision, curriculum implementation, structured and free play, positive behavior, classroom routines, and children's basic needs. The position is part-time and based at Lealman YMCA Preschool Academy in St. Petersburg, Florida. Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Complete DCF MODS (Introductory Child Care Training, Parts 1 & 2).
- At least 1 year of experience working with children in a developmental setting.
- Able to work with infants, toddlers, and young children indoors and outdoors.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, talk, hear, and lift up to 40 lbs.
- Must be comfortable participating in activities and engaging physically with children.
- Vision requirements include close and distance vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
- Must pass a 10-panel drug screen.
- Must clear a Level 2 background check through Florida DCF.
Nice To Haves
- CDA credential or equivalent preferred.
Responsibilities
- Help provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for young children.
- Support lead teachers with daily activities and classroom supervision.
- Foster the YMCA's core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
- Assist with implementing curriculum and guiding structured and free-play activities.
- Promote positive behavior and help maintain classroom routines.
- Attend to children's basic needs, including meals, rest, and outdoor play.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and family engagement events.
