About The Position

The industrialization team in Montréal is responsible for industrializing the equipment and workshops required to operate the electrolytic cell of the future. This cutting-edge technology will help transform the aluminum industry and improve its environmental performance for future generations. As a liaison engineer, you will act as the technical interface between the design teams and the operations teams. You will ensure the smooth communication of technical requirements, the resolution of on-site issues, and the validation of changes made to mechanical designs. You will have the opportunity to validate equipment to ensure that it meets the required technical specifications, as well as manage projects related to change management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or automated production management
  • Member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec
  • Significant experience as a field engineer and/or in production support and/or maintenance
  • Significant experience in machine design and commissioning
  • Significant experience in machine failure analysis and problem solving
  • Notable experience in mechanical equipment validation
  • Significant experience in technical writing
  • Significant experience in project management
  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with a variety of stakeholders, including internationally
  • Proficiency with mechanical engineering documentation, including assembly and detail drawings, manufacturing drawings, bills of materials (BOM, EBOM, MBOM), mechanical schematics, validation documents such as FAT/SAT/POV, commissioning reports, user manuals, and plant integration documents such as P&ID and PFD
  • Proficiency with compliance and quality documents, including inspection reports, traceability files, and material or compliance certificates
  • Understanding and application of technical calculations, including sizing calculations, thermal or mechanical balances, tolerances and fits
  • Understanding and application of standards and regulations applicable to industrial equipment, including Québec occupational health and safety regulations, material specifications, manufacturing standards such as CSA, ISO and ASME, and performance or safety requirements
  • Ability to interpret and apply standards according to the project and advise teams on regulatory compliance
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and SolidWorks design software; Microsoft Office
  • Ability to write technical documents and reports; and proficiency with project management concepts
  • Bilingual in French and English, both written and spoken

Nice To Haves

  • LEAN SIX SIGMA certification: Green Belt or Black Belt is an asset
  • Experience in an industrial metallurgical environment is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Act proactively in managing Health, Safety and Environment aspects
  • Ensure liaison between the design teams and the teams at demonstration sites, including assembly, quality, planning and client teams
  • Provide on-site technical support during assembly, testing and commissioning phases
  • Capture lessons learned and share them with the design teams to improve technical packages and the technology
  • Lead autopsies on associated equipment or topics, and provide observations and improvement recommendations to the design teams
  • Identify and document non-conformities, then develop improvement solutions for auxiliary equipment used in aluminum production
  • Write technical specifications, supplier specifications for equipment manufacturing, and quality control protocols
  • Manage change requests: prepare requests, present them to the ELYSIS committee, and ensure the execution of change management, including budget, schedule and risks
  • Define and coordinate tests for prototype qualification and carry out the associated risk analyses
  • Carry out technical assistance, audit, qualification and prototype missions for the project, and capture lessons learned
  • Organize and supervise the work of external service providers for the production of technical deliverables
