About The Position

As the Industrial Specialist for the Midwest Zone, you are responsible for driving sales and representing Rust-Oleum's industrial platform of products to MRO Accounts, OEM’s, independent paint dealers and professional painting contractors within the assigned geographic territory. States supported will be (AL, AR, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MN, MO, MS, ND, NE, OH, OK, SD, TN, TX, WI). This individual will work from a home-based office within the territory in which they will travel 40-50% to service accounts in the states listed above. Ideally candidates will reside in or near the Louisville, KY, Dallas, TX or Chicago, IL metro area.

Requirements

  • 1 - 3 years of previous paint & coatings outside sales experience is preferred
  • Demonstrate knowledge in Protective & Marine products, Industrial Flooring products, and application methods, market dynamics and trends in the coatings industry.
  • NACE Level I or II certification preferred or other industry certifications.
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field and/or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Prior experience in a sales service role with demonstrated success in customer retention.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License and have maintained a motor vehicle record within acceptable limits as prescribed by Rust-Oleum.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in the Protective & Marine products, Industrial Flooring products, and application methods, market dynamics, and trends in the coatings industry.
  • Ability to analyze data and complete a Profit & Loss analysis as required.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills and presentation skills.
  • Self-starter able to manage own time, schedule, and sales territory, with a proven ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work and travel within assigned territory 40-50% of the time.
  • Periodic evening and weekend hours are required for trade shows and customer events.
  • Proven history of exceptional follow-up skills.
  • Proven history of working with diverse customer base including independent dealers, distributors, MRO accounts, professional painting contractors and OEM’s.
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format.
  • Analyze territory performance reports and develop sales territory business plans.
  • Ability to analyze problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and write reports to communicate the information.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Teams, Excel, Power BI, SAP and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products, SAP, Power BI and various Internet applications.
  • Working knowledge PowerPoint and presentation skills are key for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Prospecting for new business, supporting existing accounts for the purpose of maintaining as well as growing the sales in the Industrial, MRO, OEM and Protective Marine market segments.
  • Collect reliable customer/territory information and estimate individual customer potential.
  • Develop a strategy to grow business with customers and identify items or product categories that require specific attention in support of this strategy.
  • Develop weekly selling plan and conduct sales calls accordingly documented in Weekly Call Reports.
  • Determine where customer is in the overall selling process and what steps are necessary to move the process along.
  • Conduct product demos to support the selling process.
  • Support customers' application requirements.
  • Manage customer complaints within lines of authority and manage process to resolution.
  • Work with internal and external customers to meet all commitments and deadlines.
  • Maintain regular contact with customers to identify business opportunities, and to present new products.
  • Work with customer service to ensure customer satisfaction on orders and set pricing.
  • Manage territory expense budgets.
  • Achieve quarterly sales and margin Target Goals.
