About The Position

The Industrial Refrigeration Technician is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of industrial refrigeration systems and related equipment. This position performs preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, inspections, and repairs to support continuous production, food safety, equipment reliability, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with industrial refrigeration systems and a strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and control systems within a manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • Technical degree, diploma, or certification in Refrigeration Systems, HVAC, Industrial Maintenance, Electromechanics, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on experience maintaining industrial refrigeration systems.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams, mechanical drawings, blueprints, and technical schematics.
  • Ability to work independently and respond effectively to equipment failures and emergency situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with industrial refrigeration systems utilizing ammonia (NH3), CO₂, and/or fluorinated refrigerants.
  • Refrigerant handling certification, as required by applicable regulations.
  • Experience working within a food manufacturing or other regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with PLC-controlled equipment and automation systems.
  • Familiarity with SCADA and refrigeration monitoring/control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections of industrial refrigeration systems and associated equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance on refrigeration equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair compressors, condensers, evaporators, valves, pumps, piping, controls, and related components.
  • Monitor system temperatures, pressures, refrigerant levels, and other operating parameters to identify abnormal conditions and prevent equipment failures.
  • Inspect and verify proper operation of cold rooms, freezers, refrigeration equipment, and HVAC systems.
  • Identify refrigerant leaks and take appropriate corrective action in accordance with established safety and environmental procedures.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control-related issues affecting refrigeration system performance.
  • Complete work orders and accurately document maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and equipment conditions.
  • Respond to refrigeration equipment breakdowns and emergency maintenance situations in a timely manner to minimize production downtime.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair activities with external vendors, contractors, and internal departments as needed.
  • Support continuous improvement, equipment reliability, and energy-efficiency initiatives.
  • Maintain technical documentation, equipment records, and maintenance history.
  • Follow all company safety, quality, food safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment and follow established lockout/tagout and other applicable safety procedures.
