About The Position

This position is for an Industrial Mechanical Technician - Skilled in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, working a Monday-Thursday 7:00 am - 5:30 pm schedule (1st Shift). The role involves performing repairs and preventive maintenance on various industrial equipment in a team-oriented and safety-conscious environment. Expectations range from task completion with direct supervision to task completion without supervision, depending on the assigned tasks and employee development. The position requires a strong understanding of hand/power tools, precision alignment, rigging, pipefitting, welding, blueprint reading, mathematics, and Preventive/Predictive Maintenance. Employees will also operate heavy industrial equipment and work from elevated areas, ensuring compliance with all company and customer regulations. Accurate and timely administrative duties, maintaining positive customer and employee relations, and meeting physical job requirements are also essential.

Requirements

  • 5+ years' experience in industrial maintenance and/or 4+ years education in industrial maintenance technologies / engineering preferred.
  • Must have working knowledge of using hand / power tools, precision alignment, rigging, pipefitting, welding, blueprint reading, mathematics, Preventive/Predictive Maintenance.
  • Must be able to use hand tools on a daily basis such as power tools (hand grinders, saws, impact wrenches, drill press, and hydraulic pullers), and rigging equipment.
  • Must be able to operate and have knowledge of simple and complex heavy industrial equipment such as forklifts, scissors lifts, basket trucks, and skid loaders.
  • Must have the flexibility to work all shifts including holidays and weekends as demanded by the job.

  • Control Precision — The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
  • Manual Dexterity — The ability to quickly grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.

  • Ability to move for extended or continuous periods of time.
  • Ability to ascend and descend staircases, ladders, and/or step stools.
  • Ability to operate applicable hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
  • Ability to operate forklifts or other vehicles in a safe manner.
  • Ability to wear a respirator while performing job duties.
  • Communication/ Expression —The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
  • Information Ordering — The ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a team-oriented and safety-conscious environment, adhering to "Safety First" expectations including PJHA process, Observation process, and compliance with all company/site safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on pumps, conveying systems, piping, heat exchangers, power transmissions, and other power-driven rotating equipment in conformance with established standards.
  • Assist in formulating preventive maintenance standards/work procedures and provide work order feedback on discrepancies.
  • Use hand tools daily, including power tools (hand grinders, saws, impact wrenches, drill press, hydraulic pullers), and rigging equipment.
  • Perform welding and use a cutting torch as required.
  • Operate and have knowledge of simple and complex heavy industrial equipment such as forklifts, scissors lifts, basket trucks, and skid loaders.
  • Work from elevated areas such as ladders, platforms, scaffolding, etc., utilizing fall protection equipment as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with all company/customer regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Achieve performance expectations set forth as part of performance appraisals, including employee development planning.
  • Communicate with all team members to assist in the development of short- and long-range planning in support of the company’s goals and objectives.
  • Maintain personal tools required for the job, including an up-to-date documented personal tool list.
  • Perform assigned tasks in a safe, effective, and efficient manner.
  • Complete accurate and timely administrative duties, including time accounting and work order completion.
  • Maintain positive customer and employee relations.
