About The Position

This role is for an HVAC Technician at Cargill in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The position involves working in a team-oriented and safety-conscious environment with a "Safety First" expectation, including adherence to PJHA process, Observation process, and all company/site safety guidelines and procedures. Responsibilities include repairs and preventive maintenance on heating/air conditioning and refrigeration systems, with expectations ranging from minimal supervision to directing other team members. The employee will work without supervision, performing equipment installation, troubleshooting malfunctions, and preventive maintenance. Repairs and preventive maintenance must be performed in conformance with established standards. The role also involves assisting in formulating preventive maintenance standards and providing work order feedback. A working knowledge of hand/power tools, HVAC & refrigeration tools, rigging, and Preventive/Predictive Maintenance is required. The job requires working from elevated areas such as ladders, platforms, and scaffolding, utilizing fall protection equipment as necessary. Flexibility to work all shifts, including holidays and weekends, is necessary. Employees will perform other assigned duties, ensure compliance with company/customer regulations, and achieve performance expectations. Communication with team members for short- and long-range planning is expected, as is maintaining personal tools and a documented personal tool list. The role requires meeting the physical requirements of the job and performing tasks safely, effectively, and efficiently. Accurate and timely administrative duties, including time accounting and work order completion, are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • 5+ years' experience in industrial HVAC/refrigeration maintenance and repairs
  • EPA Certificate - Universal Technician
  • Working knowledge of hand / power tools, HVAC & refrigeration tools, rigging, and Preventive / Predictive Maintenance.
  • Ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Control Precision — The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
  • Manual Dexterity — The ability to quickly grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Substantial lifting (up to 50 pounds) is required.
  • Ability to move for extended or continuous periods of time.
  • Ability to ascend and descend staircases, ladders, and/or step stools.
  • Ability to operate applicable hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
  • Ability to operate forklifts or other vehicles in a safe manner.
  • Ability to wear a respirator while performing job duties.
  • Communication/ Expression —The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
  • Information Ordering — The ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations).

Responsibilities

  • Repairs and preventive maintenance on heating/air conditioning and/or refrigeration systems.
  • Equipment installation.
  • Repairs to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment.
  • Troubleshooting malfunctions and preventive maintenance on such equipment.
  • Refrigeration and repairs.
  • Refrigeration troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Other mechanical related work as assigned.
  • Perform repairs and preventive maintenance in conformance with established standards.
  • Assist in formulating preventive maintenance standards / work procedures while performing those duties and provide work order feedback on discrepancies noted in service delivery.
  • Works from elevated areas such as ladders, platforms, scaffolding, etc. utilizing fall protection equipment as necessary to complete tasks.
  • Perform any and all other duties that are assigned by the responsible supervisor.
  • Ensures compliance with all company / customer regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Achieve performance expectations set forth as part of performance appraisals to include employee development planning.
  • Communications with all team members to assist the development of short- and long-range planning in assist of the company’s goals and objectives.
  • Maintain personal tools required for your job to include an up to date documented personal tool list.
  • Meet physical requirements of the job.
  • Perform assigned tasks in a safety, effective, and efficient manner.
  • Accurate and timely administrative duties to include, but not limited to, time accounting and work order completion.
