About The Position

Florida Polytechnic University invites applications for a tenure-equivalent faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, beginning August 2027. The position is shared between the Industrial Engineering and Mechanical Engineering programs and teaches courses in both. The University seeks a faculty member who connects design and manufacturing and can guide students from a CAD model through manufacturing and inspection.

The faculty member will teach courses across Industrial and Mechanical Engineering, contribute to the department’s design and laboratory sequence, mentor senior capstone teams, develop a research program involving undergraduate and M.S. students and industry partners, and participate in department and University service. Areas of interest include design and manufacturing, with preference for manufacturing processes, machining and CNC; advanced and additive manufacturing; design for manufacturing and assembly; and production systems, quality, and automation.

The Department of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Industrial Engineering offers B.S. degrees in Mechanical, Aerospace, and Industrial Engineering and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Its hands-on design sequence begins in students’ first year and culminates in industry-sponsored senior capstone projects. Faculty have access to a fabrication shop, 3D printing lab, materials testing laboratory, and senior design space.

Florida Poly uses renewable, multi-year tenure-equivalent appointments under a collective bargaining agreement. Reappointment and promotion are based on a comprehensive review of accomplishments. Initial appointments are three years for Assistant Professors, three to six years for Associate Professors, and six years for Professors. Compensation is commensurate with experience and rank. The position requires authorization to work in the United States at the time of hire and throughout employment. A background check is required and may include Level II screening. H1B visa sponsorship is on hold until further notice under Florida State University System directives.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related field, completed before the start date.
• For appointment at Associate Professor rank: six years at the rank of Assistant Professor or equivalent.
• For appointment at Professor rank: six years at the rank of Associate Professor or equivalent.
