Florida Polytechnic University•JD Alexander Florida Polytechnic Main Campus, FL

About The Position

Florida Polytechnic University invites applications for a tenure-equivalent faculty position in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, beginning August 2027. The hire will help build the new B.S. in Aerospace Engineering program’s propulsion and aerodynamics coursework and laboratories, and teach thermal-fluids courses shared by the Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering degrees. The faculty member will teach aerospace courses such as Principles of Flight Vehicle Propulsion, Rocket Propulsion, and Fundamentals of Aerodynamics, as well as Mechanical Engineering courses in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer. The position also includes developing aerodynamics and propulsion laboratory instruction and equipment, mentoring aerospace design and senior capstone teams, building a research program that involves undergraduate and M.S. students, and contributing to department and University service. Applicants from all areas of aerospace engineering are welcome. Preference will be given to expertise in aircraft or rocket propulsion and combustion; compressible and high-speed flow, including hypersonics; or aerodynamics and experimental fluid mechanics. The University uses renewable, multi-year appointments under a collective bargaining agreement, with reappointment and promotion based on comprehensive review. Compensation is commensurate with experience and rank. The position requires legal authorization to work in the United States at the time of hire and throughout employment; H1B visa sponsorship is on hold until further notice. Employment is contingent on proof of work eligibility and a background check, which may include Level II screening.
