About The Position

Mastronardi Produce is seeking an Industrial Engineer – DC Performance & Reliability for its corporate location in Livonia, Michigan. The role drives distribution center performance across an assigned portfolio of sites by using WMS and MES data to diagnose root causes and close performance gaps. It provides insights to Site General Managers and leadership teams on corrective actions to move DC performance toward network Best-in-Class targets, and leads distribution center and production-flow infrastructure design to improve productivity and overall DC KPIs in support of company growth objectives. The role partners closely with the Director of Insights & Business Metrics and the Supply Chain Engineering Project Manager to translate findings into sustained operational improvement. The position maintains hands-on onsite presence at assigned DCs and periodically travels to other network locations and prospective sites. The Site GM retains ownership of training and workforce performance; this role provides KPI-based analysis, coaching recommendations, and corrective-action tracking without direct line authority over DC employees. The role also supports network expansion, facility planning, system adoption, capital project reviews, and cross-functional problem solving. Mastronardi Produce expects employees to demonstrate its PRIDE values: Passion, Respect, Innovation, Drive, and Excellence. Accommodation is available through the company's accommodation processes and policies for employees with disabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • 8–12 years of progressive experience in distribution center or manufacturing operations, including demonstrated experience in DC/production facility design, network planning, or site selection; experience solely in steady-state DC operations does not meet the stated scope.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior site leadership, including General Managers, and cross-functional corporate leaders through data-driven analysis without direct line authority.
  • Experience applying structured root cause analysis and corrective-action methodologies, such as 5-Why, fishbone/Ishikawa, DMAIC, A3, or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of WMS/MES systems and process documentation.
  • Strong Excel proficiency and working familiarity with a BI/reporting tool such as Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent.
  • Strong coaching, facilitation, and communication skills, including advising site leadership on workforce-performance corrective direction without direct authority over the workforce.
  • Ability to work onsite at assigned DC portfolio sites and travel periodically to other network locations for network design and site-selection work.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher.
  • Experience with value stream mapping, time-and-motion studies, and line/labor balancing.
  • Root-cause problem-solving ability, with use of structured methods to identify underlying causes rather than symptoms.
  • Analytical thinking and ability to turn DC metrics into targeted, actionable corrective actions.
  • Ability to influence Site GMs and corporate HQ leaders without formal authority.
  • Ability to track corrective actions through closure and re-validate sustained compliance.
  • Communication and facilitation skills across levels, from DC floor associates to senior leadership.
  • Data-driven decision-making grounded in metrics.
  • Adaptability across a multi-site network with varying local conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, or a related field.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish.
  • DC or plant start-up experience, including site analysis and selection, facility layout/design, and initial operations stand-up.
  • Experience in food, produce, CPG, or another perishable/high-velocity distribution environment.
  • Exposure to Industry 4.0 or analytics-driven performance tools, such as real-time dashboards and IoT-enabled tracking.

Responsibilities

  • Lead recurring DC metrics compliance reviews with site leadership, assessing performance against network KPI targets such as labor productivity, throughput, order accuracy, on-time performance, and inventory accuracy.
  • Conduct root cause analysis using methods such as 5-Why, fishbone/Ishikawa, and DMAIC to identify drivers of performance gaps, process breakdowns, and end-user process non-compliance.
  • Provide KPI-based analysis and coaching recommendations to Site General Managers concerning workforce performance and corrective action, while the Site GM retains execution ownership and accountability.
  • Oversee performance across an assigned portfolio of distribution centers, generally one primary or larger DC paired with one smaller DC, with dedicated assignments for the network's largest sites as needed.
  • Maintain an onsite presence at assigned DCs, supporting the Site GM's performance-review cadence and floor-level monitoring.
  • Lead DC and production-flow infrastructure design and redesign with Operations Leadership, including facility layout, workflow, and capacity planning.
  • Lead or significantly contribute to new DC site analysis, selection, and start-up for network expansion.
  • Prepare briefings for cross-functional corporate HQ leadership on DC performance metrics and customer-service impact to inform growth planning and decisions.
  • Translate KPI and root-cause findings into coaching recommendations for Site GM Corrective Action Plans, track progress, and re-validate that performance gaps close and remain closed.
  • Map and analyze DC process flows, including value stream mapping and time-and-motion studies, to identify nonvalue-added activity, bottlenecks, and process or system deviations.
  • Standardize site workflows against network SOPs and author or revise SOPs and work instructions when breakdowns or compliance gaps are identified.
  • Partner with the Director of Insights & Business Metrics on KPI definitions, dashboard requirements, and site scorecards.
  • Partner with the Supply Chain Engineering Project Manager and IT design and implementation team when corrective actions intersect with WMS/MES rollout sequencing or system-adoption gaps.
  • Facilitate structured problem-solving sessions with site operations, maintenance, and quality teams to resolve cross-functional root causes.
  • Present root cause findings, corrective-action status, and site performance trends to DC and Supply Chain Engineering leadership.
  • Support sustained process adherence and compliance following WMS/MES system go-live.
  • Travel to other network distribution centers and prospective new sites for network design, site selection, and cross-portfolio metrics reviews.
  • Assist with DC site capital expenditure project reviews and documentation.
  • Work with DC Site Maintenance on productivity initiatives and maintenance projects.
  • Perform other duties as required to support Supply Chain Engineering functions.
