About The Position

The Custodian, also referred to as a Janitor, is responsible for the general maintenance and cleanliness of equipment, facilities, and grounds at an industrial laundry facility. The role may also perform work in other production positions as needed and undertake other tasks as required. The position works both indoors and outdoors around large machinery and in offices and on facility grounds. Conditions may include temperature variations, odors, humidity, lint, and dust. The job requires meeting its physical demands throughout the entire shift. No education is required, and travel is not required.

Requirements

Recognize colors and sizes, and count and sort accurately.
In some locations, be able and certified to safely operate a powered industrial truck.
Have basic knowledge of cleaning products and procedures or be willing to learn.
Be able to prioritize multiple tasks and work effectively with a team.
Be able to work independently and understand and follow written or verbal directions.
Be able to meet the physical demands of the job throughout the entire shift.
Physical demands include standing, walking, bending, reaching, twisting, working in cramped areas, reaching overhead, pushing, pulling, grasping, lifting up to 90 pounds, carrying up to 50 pounds, and stooping.
Successfully complete background and safety-sensitive drug screening as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

Perform heavy cleaning duties, including cleaning plant equipment using compressed air and other methods.
Scrub, sanitize, vacuum, sweep, and mop.
Dispose of trash, clean spills, replace air fresheners, change light bulbs, lock doors, paint, maintain water coolers, and prepare facilities for events such as meetings or banquets.
Clean offices, bathrooms, break rooms, and other areas.
Move furniture, supplies, textiles, or equipment within departments or into storage, and assist other departments with tasks.
Apply insecticides and fumigants, trim shrubbery, perform other outside maintenance, and clear walkways of snow or leaves.
Participate in safety programs, use personal protective equipment as needed, and notify supervision about repair needs, spills, safety concerns, or hazardous situations.
Maintain records of maintenance, monitor cleaning supplies, and restock supplies in bathrooms, break rooms, and other areas.
Operate a powered industrial truck to move, transfer, load, and unload materials.
Continuously meet efficiency and safety standards for the position.
Follow instructions from supervision and keep the work area neat and clean.
Work in other production positions as needed.
Perform other tasks as required.
