About The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated Automation Engineer to join our growing engineering team and help drive new product development from concept through deployment. In this hands-on role, you will design, build, program, and support advanced industrial automation solutions across a variety of operational environments, including robotics, mechatronics, material handling, sortation, packaging automation, and storage systems. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge automation platforms, collaborating closely with cross-functional internal teams and external partners to deliver scalable, high‑impact solutions that improve efficiency, reliability, and cost performance across operations. This role is onsite in our Mt Juliet TN facility and is responsible for the full lifecycle of automation solutions. The role will include ~30% travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 3+ years of experience working with industrial automation, controls engineering, or manufacturing systems
  • Hands-on experience with PLC programming (structured text, ladder logic, or equivalent)
  • Experience with traditional programming languages such as C++, as well as version control systems
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to develop creative, practical solutions to complex engineering challenges
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing requirements and priorities in a fast-paced development environment
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple workloads
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional, team-based environments

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with OEM robotic and PLC platforms, including: KUKA (highly preferred), FANUC, Yaskawa, Omron, Beckhoff, B&R
  • Experience designing or supporting vision-based automation systems and inspection applications
  • Working knowledge of Python for automation, scripting, data processing, or system integration
  • Experience taking a lead role in defining automation hardware architectures and control platform standards
  • Exposure to large-scale material handling, robotics, packaging, or sortation systems

Responsibilities

  • Design, integrate, program, and commission automation systems using PLCs, robotic arms, conveyors, actuators, sensors, and peripheral equipment
  • Develop and modify PLC and control system software using structured text, ladder logic, and traditional programming languages as appropriate
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, and operations teams to deliver end-to-end automated solutions
  • Identify and implement opportunities to reduce production costs, improve throughput, and enhance system reliability
  • Combine hardware and software architectures to optimize production operations and system performance
  • Support debugging, troubleshooting, and optimization of automation systems during development, testing, and deployment
  • Participate in design reviews, technical documentation, and system validation activities
  • Communicate technical issues, risks, and recommendations clearly through written documentation and verbal discussions
  • Stay current on emerging automation technologies and contribute ideas for continuous improvement and innovation
