About The Position

The Indirect Buyer will manage the entire commercial relationship for indirect categories assigned. This includes but not limited to, supplier qualification, terms and conditions execution, negotiating pricing, savings achievement, stakeholder and supplier relationship management. This candidate will also need to assist with processing spot buy orders for the European technical centers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable qualification
  • Strong MS Office skills, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong negotiation skills combined with assertiveness
  • Strategic mindset and entrepreneurial thinking with a clear focus on results
  • Analytical approach and structured, independent way of working
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to actively drive change
  • Normal amount of sitting and standing, average mobility to move around an office and plant environment, able to conduct normal amount of work on a computer.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and support operational and strategic procurement activities such as onboarding, qualification and lifecycle activities
  • Negotiate agreements by analyzing supplier quotations and terms, achieve the best global commercial condition.
  • Work intimately with the Stakeholders to help steer the selection to preferred suppliers and utilize this leverage to obtain the most competitive pricing.
  • Locate new sources of supply and establish new suppliers.
  • Develop and maintain relationship with suppliers.
  • Conduct supplier performance evaluations / supplier assessments.
  • Facilitate cross-functional activities such as supplier business review meetings, audits, and cost saving initiatives.
  • Implement strategies and solutions to improve cost levels, stable sources of supply, high quality of services and other governing factors related to the Purchasing Department and adjacent areas.
  • Lead continuous improvement activities that may include developing programs to improve supplier performance.
  • Track category’s key performance indicators, such as savings and activities to achieve key objectives.
  • Ensures all Company policies, procedures, plant standards, and safety rules are consistently adhered to.
  • Displays a positive attitude towards safety, works safely and follows all the Company's safety policies and procedures.
  • Complies with all Health, Safety and Environmental standards in accordance with the Magna Employee Charter, the Occupational Health & Safety Act, and the Michigan Occupational Health & Safety Act.

  • Ensures all employees and visitors have a safe environment in that safety and housekeeping standards are maintained; and all hazards, unsafe actions, or unsafe conditions have been identified, corrected, and/or eliminated.
  • Responds to and investigates all reports of injuries, accidents, illnesses, near misses and property damage immediately.
  • Takes an active part in the division’s safety program by performing regular workplace inspections, effectively investigates accidents/incidents promptly and assists in meeting or exceeding the division’s safety goals.
