About The Position

Reporting to the Manager, Indigenous Programs, the Indigenous Engagement Coordinator (IEC) builds meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities, with a focus on Francophone youth, volunteers, and Métis partners across urban and rural settings. Grounded in Indigenous perspectives and lived experience, this role supports awareness and access to Kids Help Phone services for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis youth. The IEC delivers and supports Indigenous programs, including Weaving Threads and Brighter Days, and contributes to volunteer engagement, partnerships, and Indigenous initiatives.

Requirements

  • French–English bilingualism is considered and asset and preferred.
  • First Nations, Inuit, or Métis candidate with lived experience are preferred
  • Knowledge of Métis culture, history, and community contexts that supports meaningful engagement with Métis communities and partners.
  • Experience engaging with Indigenous communities, youth, and Elders and allies in a way that reflects respect, reciprocity, and cultural safety.
  • Post-secondary education related to clinical counselling, i.e. Indigenous Social Work, Counselling Psychology, etc. That supports the safe and effective facilitation of Brighter Days sessions and resource/content development.
  • Experience offering counselling to children and youth individually or in groups with preference for those with experience in brief-solution focused therapy, trauma-informed counselling, client centered counselling, crisis intervention and narrative therapy.
  • Able to coordinate projects and tight deadlines in a fast paced, resource-lean environment.
  • Strong sense of professionalism, confidentiality and commitment to maintaining a safe and culturally grounded environment for youth.
  • Experience supporting volunteers through training, check-ins, and ongoing relationships building.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite (including Excel) and digital platforms for documentation, communication, and virtual facilitation.
  • Must have a quiet, distraction-free environment and reliable broadband internet connection to enable effective remote work and video facilitation.

Responsibilities

  • Support volunteers in Weaving Threads: An Indigenous Engagement Program through onboarding and training, regular check-in meetings, and assisting volunteers in their role of building awareness of Kids Help Phone services by providing feedback, connecting volunteers with resources and more.
  • Coordinate Brighter Days: An Indigenous Wellness Program supported by Sun Life including booking and supporting sessions, ensuring participating groups receive all program materials, internal and external communication of upcoming sessions are communicated timely, and accurately documenting session information.
  • Coordinate the distribution of outreach materials to Indigenous communities and organizations.
  • Contribute to the delivery of KHP’s New Trails: An Indigenous Outreach program and KHP’s mentorship program.
  • Contribute to Indigenous program and service promotion, development and evaluation.
  • Accurately document all program engagement in KHP’s customer management solution.
  • Engage virtually or via phone with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit youth from across Canada during the facilitation of Brighter Days sessions, including Francophone Indigenous youth, where French-English bilingualism supports culturally safe communication and engagement.
  • Virtually facilitate engaging activities and exercises that will help Indigenous youth access resources and develop skills to support their well-being. These activities will employ culturally safe approaches that incorporate traditional teachings while adhering to program curriculum.
  • Engage virtually or via phone with community helpers such as teachers for pre-session. conversations to customize Brighter Days sessions to the unique needs of each participating group.
  • Accurately document all session information in KHP’s customer management solution.
  • Identify and engage with ongoing and potential Indigenous partners, vendors, trainers and external relationships to support Kids Help Phone’s Indigenous initiatives.
  • Engage with Indigenous communities, individuals and organizations who wish to build awareness and access to KHP programs and services; listen to, and document, knowledge shared that will continuously enhance KHP programs and services for Indigenous youth and communities across the country.
  • Deliver presentations to a range of adult and youth audiences about KHP’s services.
  • Document all external communication in KHP’s customer management solution.
