About The Position

The primary purpose of the position is to provide administrative and technical supervision of an Economic Services Unit of income maintenance caseworkers responsible for intake, processing, and review functions of determining and/or redetermining applicant/client eligibility for services in the federal and state Economic Services Program. Services provided under the Economic Services Program include, but are not necessarily limited to, Food and Nutrition Services (FNS), Medicaid, Work First Family Assistance (WFFA), Crisis Intervention, and Low Income Energy Assistance. Employees are administratively and technically responsible for the work of income maintenance caseworkers and are responsible for supervising work involved in the intake, processing, and review functions for any of the services within the Economic Services Program.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience as a caseworker or investigator in an income maintenance program
  • Preferably with one year of supervisory experience
  • Or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Planning the short and some long-range work operations, priorities, and goals within the unit and/or sub-units supervised.
  • Providing leadership by modeling excellence and professionalism and through daily guidance, counseling, and support of unit staff.
  • Assigning and balancing workloads within the unit and/or sub-units and coordinating overall workflow.
  • Developing procedures and making minor organizational changes and recommending other changes to improve efficiency.
  • Assessing and projecting staffing, equipment and supply needs, documenting appropriate justifications and submitting these requests in writing to the Income Maintenance Administrator or agency business officer.
  • Providing on-the-job training as well as some training needs assessment and arranging for employees to attend workshops and other job-related training.
  • Ensuring that staff adheres to Local, State, and Federal standards with regard to the quality of work required in processing economic services program cases.
  • Ensuring staff compliance with all rules, regulations, policy, and laws concerning the workplace.
  • Gathering statistical data about performance within their unit, identifying trends, and preparing recommendations and reports using the analysis of the data collected.
  • Using a variety of data and reports from various sources in evaluating the overall performance of staff assigned to their unit.
  • Conducting second party reviews through the random sampling and evaluation of ongoing cases processed by their staff.
  • Counseling staff regarding performance and grievance policies and potentially issuing oral and/or written warnings.
  • Making recommendations on dismissals to a higher level supervisor.
  • Evaluating staff performance and making recommendations to a higher level supervisor or the agency director on merit raises, appraisals, reassignments, and salary adjustments.
  • Interviewing applicants, usually in concert with higher level management.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
