About The Position

The Johnston County Department of Social Services is currently seeking a qualified Income Maintenance Caseworker III. In this role, the selected candidate will support the supervisor and unit by processing Food and Nutrition Services recertifications, while reporting directly to the Economic Services supervisor and Program Manager.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of Food and Nutrition Services.
  • Thorough knowledge of NCFAST.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, policies and eligibility systems.
  • Considerable knowledge of the agency's organizational rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to train, coach, and mentor staff with patience and clarity.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Good mathematical reasoning and computational skills.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees, and the general public.
  • Ability to present information orally or in written form.
  • Two years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years of experience as a caseworker or investigator in an income maintenance program, preferably with one year of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert to Income Maintenance workers and assist the Income Maintenance supervisor with FNS recertification policies, procedures and eligibility determinations in NCFAST.
  • Support the supervisor by mentoring staff, monitoring caseloads, identifying training needs, and contributing to the overall efficiency of the unit.
  • Assign and monitor workloads to ensure equitable distribution and timely processing of recertifications and changes.
  • Review and monitor case accuracy, timeliness, and documentation to maintain program integrity.
  • Serve as the point of contact for staff regarding FNS recertification procedures, troubleshooting and policy clarification.
  • Provide guidance to staff on complex cases and escalate issues to the supervisor when appropriate.
  • Perform other duties such as Shelter or Emergency Management duties during a disaster.
