The Imaging Specialist I provides quality control and support to the histology laboratory and pathologists. The role assembles cases by matching completed slides to the correct case in the Laboratory Information System (LIS), verifying that required slides are present and accurately labeled, and combining verified slides with the appropriate case summary and paperwork so cases are ready for pathologist review. The specialist uses working knowledge of histology laboratory workflow and the LIS to perform assigned tasks under low to moderate supervision. For each case, the specialist confirms readiness for assembly in the LIS; gathers and verifies slides, labels, patient identifiers, part/block designations, and slide counts and types; checks slide condition and case-summary accuracy; and performs a final completeness and accuracy review. Discrepancies are flagged and documented, and the case is held until resolved. Slides and paperwork must not be altered or relabeled. Completed cases are sorted, updated in the LIS, and routed to the appropriate pathologist, PA, or designated area. The role also supports block and slide filing and retrieval, maintains an orderly work area, protects patient confidentiality, and assists with training and other assigned duties. This is a full-time position at the CSI site in Alpharetta, Georgia. Shift work and overtime are required; flexibility to work different shifts is needed, and weekends and evenings may be required. The position involves handling biological specimens, tissue slides, and blocks with appropriate PPE, and requires the ability to lift up to 15 pounds, sit or stand for extended periods, read small print and slide labels, and perform repetitive work while maintaining accuracy. The role reports to the Histology Supervisor/Manager and has no supervisory responsibilities.
