About The Position

The Imaging Services Extern (ISE) screens, positions, and images patients. The extern works only when another Registered Imaging Services Technologist is on duty and works closely with the Imaging Services Team Leader and Radiologist to produce quality images in accordance with department protocols. Incumbents may hold the position for no more than 18 months. The role is in the X-Ray Department at Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital and is contingent, part-time, with a rotating/variable shift.

Requirements

Completion of the first or second year of an accredited Imaging Services program and current enrollment in the sequential year and/or program, with at least 40% of the Imaging Services program completed.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

Screen patients before exams for safety-related issues, including verifying the correct patient, clinical history, and exam order.
Use two patient identifiers for all exams.
Perform exams using appropriate techniques and views for the patient's condition and requested exam.
Complete patient-related documentation according to department and hospital policy.
Review and complete studies in the medical record according to modality and workflow specifications.
Review patient schedules to identify potential problems or incorrect orders.
Maintain department supplies by notifying appropriate personnel when supplies need to be ordered.
Attend training related to daily job functions, including medical record and radiology applications.
Identify and assist in resolving safety, sanitation, and environmental maintenance problems.
Provide quality patient care that considers age-specific, developmental, and cultural needs through competent clinical practice.
Demonstrate unit- and area-specific competencies.
Participate in student education and meet requirements established by the program.
Perform other duties as assigned.
