About The Position

The Imaging Services Extern (ISE) works in the X-Ray department at Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital. The ISE screens, positions, and images patients, working closely with the Imaging Services Team Leader and Radiologist to produce quality images in accordance with department protocols. The extern is scheduled to work only when another Registered Imaging Services Technologist is on duty. Incumbents may hold the position for no more than 18 months. The position is contingent and offers a rotating/variable shift.

Requirements

Completion of the first or second year of an accredited Imaging Services program and current enrollment in the sequential year and/or program, with at least 40% of the Imaging Services program completed.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

Screen patients before exams for safety-related issues, including confirming patient identity, clinical history, and exam orders; use two patient identifiers for all exams.
Perform exams using appropriate techniques and views for the patient's condition and requested exam.
Complete patient-related documentation in accordance with department and hospital policy.
Review and complete studies in the medical record according to modality and workflow specifications.
Review patient schedules to identify potential problems or incorrect orders.
Maintain department supplies by notifying appropriate personnel when supplies need to be ordered.
Attend training related to daily job functions, including medical record and radiology applications.
Identify and assist in resolving safety, sanitation, and environmental maintenance problems.
Provide quality patient care that considers age-specific, developmental, and cultural needs, and demonstrate unit or area competencies.
Participate in student education and meet requirements established by the program.
Perform other duties as assigned.
