The Imaging Data Technician keeps Ancestry's image files organized and accurate as they move through the production pipeline. The job uses Ancestry's imaging tools, ticketing systems, and databases to make sure every file is properly labeled, mapped, and technically correct. It also involves managing many tasks for multiple projects at once, tracking how different teams' work connects, and seeing problems through to a fix. You'll do well in this role if you're technically sharp, think in systems, and understand how files flow between connected workflows.

Requirements

  • Strong project coordination skills — able to manage multiple concurrent workstreams, track status and dependencies, and drive issues to closure without constant oversight.
  • Skilled at facilitating communication across technical and non-technical partners, maintaining accurate status updates, and documenting decisions and actions.
  • Strong technical aptitude with proven ability to troubleshoot across systems, files, and pipelines.
  • Working knowledge of MySQL or comparable databases; comfortable writing and modifying queries.
  • Intermediate Excel proficiency (pivot tables, lookups, basic data validation).
  • Experience navigating ticketing systems (Workfront, Jira, or similar) in a production environment.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with clear written and verbal communication.
  • Self-directed and dependable across competing priorities.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs when handling physical media.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with metadata management, digital asset management (DAM), or structured content workflows.
  • Interest in archives, libraries, digitization, or family history research.
  • Prior experience with ingestion pipelines, ETL processes, or content mapping in a production environment.
  • Familiarity with scripting (Python, SQL, shell) for data validation or batch operations.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain mapping configurations that route content into Ancestry's proprietary imaging systems.
  • Apply and validate metadata, naming conventions, and file structures to ensure content meets technical specifications and downstream searchability requirements.
  • Monitor production pipelines and diagnose issues across mapping, web crawls, SFTP transfers, and ingestion workflows.
  • Coordinate concurrent projects and workstreams — tracking status, surfacing blockers, managing dependencies, and driving issues to resolution.
  • Manage ticket queues (Workfront) from intake to close — triaging reprocess requests, investigating root causes, and tracking resolution through completion.
  • Process digital image hard drives by validating data integrity, reconciling import records, and resolving ingestion or mapping errors.
  • Query databases (MySQL or comparable) to investigate discrepancies, verify ingestion results, and support error resolution.
  • Prepare and verify digital delivery packages, confirming metadata accuracy, file structure, and documentation before transfer to archival partners.
  • Partner with project managers, support teams, and cross-functional groups to coordinate handoffs, improve processes, and document workflows.
  • Handle physical media drives — shipping, receiving, and inventory — with proper chain-of-custody documentation.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by the Imaging Operations Manager or Content Production Manager.
