About The Position

The Imaging Assistant is a vital member of the radiology care team, providing essential patient care, safety, administrative, and operational support within the medical imaging environment. Imaging Assistants work collaboratively with registered radiologic technologists and other clinical staff to ensure efficient workflow, patient comfort, and adherence to safety standards. Imaging Assistants do not perform imaging procedures or acquire medical images. Their role focuses on patient support, safety compliance, preparation, transport, equipment readiness, and clerical assistance to support optimal patient outcomes and departmental operations. In modality-specific areas such as Magnetic Resonance (MR), Imaging Assistants support technologists by assisting with patient screening, positioning, and safety tasks while ensuring strict compliance with modality-specific safety requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required or obtained within designated timeframe)
  • Basic knowledge of radiologic terminology and imaging procedures
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • High attention to detail and ability to follow detailed instructions
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to lift, move, and position patients safely
  • Good physical stamina to stand, walk, and assist throughout scheduled shifts
  • Ability to push/pull equipment and patient transport devices
  • Ability to work in clinical environments with varying temperatures and activity levels

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a healthcare, radiology, or clinical support setting (preferred)
  • Willingness to complete on-the-job training

Responsibilities

  • Assist radiologic technologists with preparing and positioning patients for imaging procedures
  • Ensure patient safety, comfort, dignity, and privacy throughout imaging visits
  • Perform patient screening activities as directed, including safety questionnaires and pre-exam checks. Practices AIDET.
  • Assist patients with dressing, undressing, transfers, and mobility as needed
  • Safely transport patients to and from imaging areas, including the use of stretchers, wheelchairs, or other mobility devices
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients and families regarding procedures and expectations
  • Support MR technologists by assisting with patient screening, positioning, and monitoring
  • Enhance patient safety and workflow in the MR suite
  • Strictly comply with MR safety policies, including screening for contraindications
  • Prepare imaging exam rooms prior to procedures and clean equipment after use according to infection control standards
  • Maintain organization of imaging supplies, linens, and equipment
  • Ensure imaging equipment and accessories are properly stored and ready for use
  • Assist with workflow efficiency by coordinating patient readiness and room turnover
  • Manage patient records and documentation using electronic health record (EHR) systems
  • Communicate effectively with technologists, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare staff regarding patient status and readiness
  • Follow all hospital, departmental, and regulatory safety policies
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control protocols
  • Support modality-specific safety requirements (e.g., MRI safety protocols, restricted access zones)
  • Participate in ongoing training, competencies, and departmental education
