The position focuses primarily on digital imaging and archives, with additional support for day-to-day maintenance of the Beverly Hills library collection. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, approachable, and proactive, with strong retouching skills, an understanding of digital asset management, and the ability to balance established procedures with changing priorities. They should be comfortable working independently, following projects through to completion, and communicating with colleagues at all levels of the gallery.

Requirements

  • Approximately 1–4 years of relevant experience in digital imaging, image archiving, photo production, digital collections, or a related role; experience in a gallery, museum, archive, or creative organization is especially relevant.
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and hands-on experience retouching and preparing high-quality photographs.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Bridge and the broader Adobe Creative Cloud suite.
  • Experience using digital asset management systems and organizing image collections through consistent metadata, file naming, and quality-control practices.
  • Understanding of photographic workflows and comfort working with a digital camera.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to handle multiple deadlines, prioritize work, and follow through independently.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with colleagues across departments and levels of seniority.
  • Ability to follow established workflows while remaining flexible, learning new processes, and taking initiative when information or direction is needed.
  • Excellent attention to detail, good judgment, and discretion when handling confidential materials.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience photographing artworks, exhibitions, or staff portraits; familiarity with Canon camera equipment is useful but not required.

  • Knowledge of contemporary art, gallery operations, and image rights or reproduction permissions.
  • A relevant degree in photography, digital media, archival studies, library and information science, art history, or a related discipline; advanced study is welcome, but equivalent experience will be considered.

  • Receive, organize, and maintain digital images in the gallery’s Digital Asset Management (DAM) system; apply metadata, naming conventions, and archival guidelines; and assist with metadata cleanup.
  • Coordinate and manage photography of incoming artworks and exhibition installations.
  • Photograph artworks and installations on site as needed, following established image-capture, handling, and documentation standards; provide occasional staff headshots and other gallery photography support.
  • Retouch and prepare artwork photographs in Adobe Photoshop, including color correction, cropping, exposure adjustments, and image cleanup, while accurately representing the original artwork without altering its content.
  • Review images for quality, consistency, and technical accuracy before distribution or upload to gallery platforms and other approved systems.
  • Coordinate with the registration team, gallery front desk, and other departments to photograph, identify, and track artworks as they arrive, move through the gallery, or appear in exhibitions.
  • Create to-scale digital artwork mockups and exhibition planning materials using Adobe Photoshop as needed.
  • Field image and press requests, identify appropriate assets, and coordinate image permissions and approvals with internal colleagues, artist liaisons, studios, and rights representatives.
  • Partner with the global digital content and archives team, keeping stakeholders informed about project status, deadlines, questions, and follow-up items.
  • Manage multiple assignments and changing priorities while maintaining accurate records, following procedures, and proactively seeking clarification when needed.
  • Provide secondary support for the Beverly Hills library, including shelving and organizing books, maintaining catalogue stock, tracking circulation, and assisting staff with basic publication requests.
  • Create and maintain procedural documentation so workflows, departmental processes, and guidelines are clear and up to date.
  • Submit and track invoices and expense reports as needed, ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Assist with maintaining the library catalog, including updating records, organizing new acquisitions, and ensuring collection information is accurate and accessible to gallery staff.
