The Buncombe County Bureau of Identification is a small department with 2 divisions focused on specific tasks in support of law enforcement agencies and residents of the County. The ID Bureau processes request for Concealed Handgun Permits and renewals on behalf of the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office. At the request of authorized agencies or residents, we collect fingerprints, conduct background checks and/or provide sensitive information from Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS). Centralized Data Entry (CDE) is a 24/7 operation that processes sensitive information and manages data in direct support of law enforcement while maintaining the Master Name Index for accuracy and accountability. Both divisions manage vital records as well as other processes directed by County and State policy. These activities involve the use of various data management systems that include JMS, RMS and CAD. The ability to use CJIS is required by every employee and DCI is required for specific employees based on their position or assignment. This complex operation bases its success on the people it employs. The dedicated employees of the ID Bureau/CDE build and maintain solid partnerships with stakeholders, while relying on a team focused approach to accomplishing goals. Providing support and encouragement to one another as well as communicating effectively is important in every part of the operation. We strive to provide the best internal and external customer service. An Identification Bureau employee is in a position of trust and must represent the County’s core values. Identification Technicians are responsible for collecting information, monitoring, analyzing, and processing assigned requests, assisting residents and law enforcement with accurate data, collecting payments for transactions and providing quality customer service. This position works closely with the Administrative Offices of the Courts, law enforcement and the public. Several activities and processes of the ID Bureau are regulated and must maintain compliance with Federal, State and County regulations. The ideal candidate for this position will have proven experience in the areas of data collection, customer service, cash-handling, organization, records maintenance, workflow process creation, and problem-solving, along with strong teamwork and communication skills.
