Working alongside veterinarians, nurses, and technicians, you will help provide comfort, husbandry, patient handling, and operational support that contribute to outstanding patient care. Equine experience is preferred, but candidates with veterinary, animal care, agricultural, or healthcare experience are encouraged to apply. The Patient Care Assistant provides basic patient care and operational support for hospitalized emergency, critical care, and specialty patients. This position assists the nursing team with patient handling, transport, husbandry, facility upkeep, and routine support tasks while helping maintain a safe, clean, and efficient hospital environment.

Requirements

  • Basic level of horse handling experience required.
  • Preference given to those with experience working in veterinary medicine.
  • Ability to understand both written and verbal instructions regarding patient care and treatments.
  • Ability to appropriately chart patient parameters, subjective observations, and independently utilize provided resources for standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and respond to questions from managers, doctors, and clients.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions.
  • Computer literacy in common computer software programs.
  • Equine restraint/handling and horsemanship skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Equine experience is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with feeding, watering, and walking patients as directed
  • Provide basic patient care and comfort measures
  • Assist with patient restraint and handling during exams, treatments, and procedures
  • Transport patients, supplies, equipment, and laboratory samples throughout the hospital
  • Observe patients and promptly report concerns to the ICU team
  • Clean and maintain stalls, treatment areas, and shared hospital spaces
  • Maintain biosecurity and cleanliness in ICU and isolation areas
  • Restock feed, bedding, supplies, and equipment
  • Assist with laundry, waste removal, and general housekeeping duties
  • Support technicians with routine non-clinical tasks
  • Complete assigned tasks independently and communicate concerns to the ICU team
