About The Position

The City of Columbia Heights Recreation Department is seeking a part-time Ice Skating Instructor to lead youth ice skating classes on Saturdays and/or Sundays. This seasonal position is predicted to run from late December to January, depending on weather and ice conditions. Typically, 2-3 classes will be offered on weekends, each 45 minutes in length. The instructor will collaborate with the Recreation Coordinator to build the class schedule and determine the classes offered.

Requirements

• Intermediate-advanced ice skating skills (hockey or figure skating).
• Ability to teach ice skating skills.
• Ability to positively interact with youth and families.
• Must pass a background check.

Nice To Haves

• First aid training.
• Class management skills.

Responsibilities

• Planning and leading beginner-level ice skating classes for youth ages 5-12.
• Teaching youth the basics of skating through instruction and game play.
• Ensuring the safety of participants while on the ice.
• Collaborating and co-teaching with other skating instructors.
• Assisting in communications with families in Recreation programming.
