About The Position

Holland Parks & Recreation is seeking an enthusiastic and dependable Learn to Skate Instructor to help children build confidence on the ice. This position leads beginner skating classes for children ages 6–11 in a safe, supportive, and engaging environment.

Requirements

  • Strong ice skating skills and the ability to confidently demonstrate basic skating techniques.
  • Patience, enthusiasm, and the ability to work effectively with children.
  • Strong communication skills and a dependable, punctual approach to work.
  • Ability to lead groups and adapt instruction to individual skill levels.
  • Ability to work outdoors in winter conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience teaching skating, coaching, or leading youth activities is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead age-appropriate lessons that introduce skating fundamentals, including balance, forward movement, stopping, and safely falling and getting back up.
  • Use games and activities to make learning enjoyable while helping participants develop their skills.
  • Provide clear demonstrations and individual feedback to skaters with different experience levels.
  • Supervise participants and reinforce Ice Park rules and safe skating practices.
  • Assist with participant check-in, skate readiness, equipment setup, and cleanup.
  • Communicate professionally with participants, parents, and recreation staff.
  • Represent Holland Parks & Recreation’s values of Integrity, Teamwork, and Purpose.
