We are always seeking talented and qualified professionals to enhance our ability to provide clients with exceptional service.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience with creating plan and profile drawings.
  • Knowledge of standard drafting techniques, technical standards, and established procedures used to support the design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure projects
  • Skills in using industry-standard engineering and drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, ArcGIS, Microsoft Office, etc.) to prepare technical drawings, document work, and communicate project information effectively.
  • Ability to use spreadsheets, word processing, and standard office software to compile data, support technical documentation, and assist with reporting and recordkeeping.

Nice To Haves

  • General understanding and practical experience; capable of working independently with growing efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Work independently to support Project Managers, Project Engineers and Designers with technical design tasks for various projects.
  • Utilize engineering and drafting software to complete assignments, such as generating plan and profile drawings to include cross-sections, underground utilities, etc. from survey files and/or record drawings.
  • Complete redline markups and accurately incorporates review comments with minimal supervision.
  • Prepare intermediate manual or computer-aided design drawings, cost estimates, bills of materials, plus required documents and reports for construction and maintenance projects.
  • Interpret survey notes, utility records, and civil plans to create accurate base drawings.
  • Perform standard calculations, including elevations, grades, utility dimensions, and material quantities.
  • Support collection of field data or utility record information when required.
  • Apply and follow QA/QC procedures consistently.
  • Identify potential errors or inconsistencies and correct them proactively.
  • Maintain compliance with company standards and safety requirements.
  • Work with supervisor, project manager, mentors, and various internal personnel to complete assignments within discipline and other disciplines.
  • Serve as a resource to the design staff on matters concerning drafting practices and procedures.
  • Develop skills in interpreting survey data, utility records, and engineering plans.
  • Work with internal clients daily, problem solve minor issues and escalate concerns when needed.
  • Apply the client’s standards, guidelines, specifications, practices, and procedures and/or appropriate industry standards in preparing layouts.
  • Conduct site surveys, walk-outs, and field verifications to capture accurate route, pole, structure, and right-of-way conditions.
  • Collect field data including measurements, GPS coordinates, photos, pole loading conditions, existing utility attachments, and make-ready requirements.
  • Identify field constraints—obstructions, conflicts, access limitations, and environmental considerations—that affect constructability and route selection.
  • Verify existing infrastructure (conduit, handholes, vaults, pedestals, aerial strand) against records and flag discrepancies.
  • Provide on-site design support and clarification to construction and splicing crews during project implementation.
  • Perform field redlines and capture as-built conditions for incorporation into final design documentation.
  • Develop detailed outside plant designs using GIS, CAD, and asset management tools (e.g., 3-GIS, OSPI/IQGeo, VETRO FiberMap, AutoCAD, MicroStation).
  • Translate field-collected data into accurate, constructable construction drawings, route maps, and permit exhibits.
  • Incorporate network topology considerations such as feeder/distribution segmentation, splitter hierarchy, fiber counts, and redundancy into the physical design.
  • Design-to-build conformance: Compare as-built field conditions against the approved design to confirm routes, structures, fiber counts, and hardware placement were built as engineered.
  • Splice and connectivity verification: Validate splice points, splice enclosures, fiber assignments, and port/splitter connectivity against the design and splice schematics.
  • Continuity and integrity checks: Coordinate with or review results from OTDR traces, power meter readings, and continuity testing to confirm fiber integrity, acceptable loss budgets, and end-to-end connectivity.
  • Documentation reconciliation: Reconcile field redlines, test results, and as-built data; update GIS and design records so the documented network reflects the physical build.
  • Discrepancy resolution: Identify, document, and track build deviations or defects; coordinate corrective action with construction and splicing crews and confirm resolution.
  • Closeout support: Compile verified as-built packages, test documentation, and conformance records for client acceptance and project handoff.
