Performs entry-level skilled technical work maintaining, repairing, replacing, and installing heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment, controls, and distribution systems. The role is intended for individuals who already have basic job knowledge and the motor skills and physical capabilities needed for basic tasks. Work generally involves simpler tasks, assisting higher-level workers with more complex jobs, and preparing or putting away tools. The position may be part of an apprenticeship program. It differs from semi-skilled labor work because it routinely uses tools associated with higher-level skilled positions. The technician works under very general supervision and may work independently or alongside skilled or semi-skilled workers, with responsibility for completing assigned tasks. Duties include work on HVAC and refrigeration equipment in assigned facilities, monitoring and maintaining equipment, troubleshooting faults, supporting system design and project layouts, tracking supplies, responding to emergency service requests, and assisting with oversight of onsite vendors and contractors. Other duties may be assigned. The listed duties and competencies are general and may change based on organizational needs. The position requires a high school diploma or GED, at least one year of experience maintaining HVAC systems, and a valid State of Georgia Driver’s License. Preferred qualifications include completion of a technical or vocational HVAC course of study, one year of HVAC maintenance experience, and EPA Certification. The work involves medium lifting demands: up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 30 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly.
