HVAC Service Operations Manager
About The Position
Johnson Controls is hiring an HVAC Service Operations Manager to lead a truck-based service business across an assigned territory. Under general direction, the manager oversees the service team, service assets, and execution of the business, with responsibility for growing labor and material business, delivering customer satisfaction, and supporting revenue, gross margin, and service asset management. The role calls for strong leadership, disciplined business planning, team development, and a consistent focus on customer outcomes. The manager leads operational delivery and financial performance, develops plans aligned with service sales and account goals, and builds customer relationships in the local business, governmental, and professional community. They work with Sales, matrix partners, and field leaders to review proposals and account assignments, support contractual obligations, and improve service performance. The role also includes recruiting, coaching, retaining, and developing service support staff. The position may require travel up to 50% of the time. Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business, or equivalent work experience.
- Eight to ten or more years of progressively more responsible operations management experience in the service industry.
- Five or more years of direct management experience.
- Experience in HVAC, building controls, or a similar service delivery environment.
- High-level competence in written and verbal communication.
- Strong presentation skills and ability to speak to large audiences.
- Ability to lead and direct diverse teams.
- Basic financial and accounting knowledge.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and a Windows-based environment.
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.

Responsibilities
- Lead execution of the truck-based service business and maintain consistent delivery systems across the territory.
- Manage branch service business plans, financial plans, revenue forecasts, and gross margin performance.
- Drive profitable growth through effective management of people, financial resources, and material assets.
- Develop strategic operating plans aligned with service sales and account goals.
- Build and retain customer relationships through networking in the local business, governmental, and professional community.
- Review proposals, estimates, and account assignments with Sales to support accurate and effective service execution.
- Audit service operations, support contractual obligations, and take action to improve customer satisfaction and performance.
- Recruit, hire, coach, and retain service support staff, and support performance reviews and development plans.
- Lead with accountability, safety, and integrity, establishing clear expectations for team success.
- Review operations, proposals, and financial results regularly and remove obstacles that affect the team or customer.
- Use monthly one-on-ones, operational reviews, and performance expectations to promote coaching and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate with Sales, matrix partners, and field leaders to balance account ownership, resource needs, and customer commitments.
- Apply standardized tools, systems, and service processes consistently.
- Make decisions based on service performance, pricing, gross margin, and customer feedback, and adjust when results need improvement.
