About The Position

Valiant is looking for a HVAC/R Mechanic to join our team! This role involves installing, servicing, and repairing environmental-control systems in various settings, including residences, office buildings, and commercial establishments. The mechanic will utilize their knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting, and structural layout to perform these duties.

Requirements

  • CFC/EPA Universal Certification, required under Section 608 of the Clear Air Act.
  • 2 Year certificate from a college or technical school OR 3+ months of related experience and/or training OR Combination of the education and experience
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or verbal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and correspondences.
  • Strong written communication.
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group audiences.
  • Must be able to work in a sitting position for 8 or more hours per day.
  • Must be able to lift 10 pounds on a regular basis and up to 50 pounds as needed.
  • Able to travel to job locations by automobile and/or commercial airline as required.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, services, and repairs environmental-control systems in residences, office buildings, and other commercial establishments, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting, and structural layout.
  • Mounts compressors and condenser units on platform or floor, using hand tool following blueprints or engineering specifications.
  • Fabricates, assembles, and installs ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment.
  • Installs evaporator unit in chassis or in air-duct system, using hand tools.
  • Cuts and bend tubing to correct length and shape, using cutting and bending equipment and tools.
  • Joins tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions, and solders joints, using torch. Forming complete circuit for refrigerant.
  • Installs expansion and discharge valves in circuit.
  • Connects motors, compressors, temperatures controls, humidity controls and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power source.
  • Installs air and water filters in completed installations.
  • Injects small amount of refrigerant into compressors to test systems and adds Freon gas to build up prescribed operating pressures.
  • Observes pressure and vacuum gauges and adjusts controls to insure proper operation. Tests joints and connections for gas leaks, using gauges or soap and water solution. Wraps pipes in insulation batting and secures them in place with cement or wire bands.
  • Replaces defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to repair installed units, using electrician’s hand tools and test equipment.
  • May install, repair and service air conditioners, ranging from fifteen to twenty tons cooling capacity, in warehouses and small factory buildings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
