HVAC/Plumbing Estimator
About The Position
Solid Rock Recruiting is representing an established commercial mechanical contractor seeking a Mechanical Estimator to support increasing bid volume and project demand. The role focuses on reviewing project plans, developing accurate cost estimates, coordinating pricing, and preparing competitive bids for commercial HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical construction projects. The contractor has a diverse portfolio of commercial and technically complex work, including healthcare facilities, manufacturing facilities, cleanrooms, commercial renovations and upgrades, mechanical modifications and system replacements, and new commercial construction. Candidates with approximately two years of estimating experience and more experienced professionals are both being considered. AutoBid experience is beneficial, and training is available for the right candidate. Compensation depends on experience and qualifications, with a discretionary bonus opportunity and a benefits package.
Requirements
- Prior estimating experience in commercial mechanical construction is preferred.
- Background in HVAC, sheet metal, ductwork, or plumbing.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and mechanical drawings.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills.
- Stable employment history and an interest in a long-term opportunity.
Nice To Haves
- Approximately two or more years of relevant experience is preferred; developing and senior-level estimators will be considered.
- AutoBid experience is a plus; training is available.
Responsibilities
- Review construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents to determine project scope.
- Prepare detailed estimates for commercial HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical construction projects.
- Perform material takeoffs and evaluate labor, equipment, and material costs.
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to obtain pricing and verify project costs.
- Identify scope gaps, potential risks, and opportunities to improve estimate accuracy.
- Collaborate with project managers and other team members throughout the bidding process.
- Help manage bid volume while maintaining accuracy, quality, and attention to detail.
