About The Position

The HVAC Mechanic performs technical trades work to maintain heating, ventilating and air conditioning and/or refrigeration equipment as part of the services provided by the facilities management department to maintain University buildings. They are responsible for all repairs/maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration systems and components up to DDC / energy management panels (including, but not limited to, all work associated with pneumatic thermostats, calibrating; pneumatic actuators, main air distribution lines; branch air distribution lines; all pneumatic end devices, compressors, dryers, filters, and PRV stations).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Requires 4-5 years’ experience in Commercial, Light commercial and residential HVAC/refrigeration
  • Requires Universal EPA – CFC certification
  • Requires completion of apprenticeship or four years of equivalent training in the heating/ventilating and air conditioning and refrigeration trade
  • Must have general knowledge of DDC/EMS system and computer controls and a good working knowledge of pneumatic controls.
  • Must be computer literate with a valid driver’s permit from Maryland, District of Columbia or Virginia

Nice To Haves

  • Preference for a Journeyman or Master HVAC license
  • Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform journeyman level maintenance and repairs in accordance with industry/trade practices.
  • Provide daily maintenance support to building users to respond to calls for service, making scheduled preventative maintenance inspections and similar service.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and unscheduled or special work such as overhauls, replacements, surveys and similar projects.
  • Use all standard tools, equipment, materials, and supplies of the trade and observe all safety rules, regulations and precautions in performing their duties.
