About The Position

The Georgetown University Prisons and Justice Initiative (PJI) connects people affected by mass incarceration with opportunities to shape their own futures. PJI’s mission is to empower currently and formerly incarcerated people by providing access to education and employment and by advocating for just outcomes in the legal system. We aim to support people as scholars, professionals, and leaders who can break cycles of incarceration and strengthen our communities. Grounded in Georgetown’s commitment to social justice, PJI also serves to engage the wider university community in understanding the causes and responding to the consequences of mass incarceration, one of the most pressing crises of our time. One such program is the MORCA-Georgetown University Paralegal Program. The Paralegal Program is an educational certificate program for returning citizens in Washington, DC operated in partnership with the DC government Department of Employment Services (DOES) and Mayor’s Office on Returning Citizen Affairs (MORCA). Participants in the program receive stipends for their time in the program and receive a certificate in paralegal studies from the Georgetown School of Continuing Studies (SCS). At the end of the program, they are placed in one year paid positions with area law firms and organizations. The Program Manager, MORCA-Georgetown Paralegal Program (PM), will provide daily support for the Paralegal Program, and will coordinate closely with DOES, MORCA, and SCS to deliver the program. The PM will help to create calendars/schedules for the program, generate and process MOUs with our partners, help recruit law firms and other organizations to provide paid placements for the program participants, work with PJI and SCS staff to deliver the 20-week program in person, ensure participants are paid, and process emergency assistance funding requests. The PM will plan and execute events related to the program, including securing and paying fees for speakers and other guests. The PM will coordinate with alumni of the program to deliver mentoring and tutoring services to the new cohort of students. The PM will also engage in evaluation of the program during and following each cohort and contribute to future planning discussions internally and with program partners.
