About The Position

The Standardized Patient (SP) at the Georgetown University School of Medicine simulates patient scenarios to provide professional educational experiences for medical students, for both learning and assessment around their physical exam techniques and patient communication/interpersonal skills. SPs are trained in advance of any student interaction. SPs are required to portray (from memory) a specific patient case (medical history, physicality, emotional state, etc.) with realism, consistency and accurate recall after an interaction. SPs often provide verbal and/or written feedback to learners. SP work is intermittent “as needed,” and work hours will vary, dependent upon course schedules and objectives. Most work will take place on weekdays.

Responsibilities

Simulate all aspects of patient scenarios, including history of current problem, affect/behavior and physical findings, in a standardized, accurate, and reliable manner.
Accurately and consistently complete checklists at a 95% accuracy percentage.
Provide verbal feedback to learners using constructive feedback training.
Allow and be comfortable with having repeated physical examination maneuvers performed on body by learners, and sometimes clinical faculty.
Accept ongoing feedback from supervisors to incorporate into case simulation.
Willingness to be audio- and video-taped during simulations (on-campus and virtually, via Zoom), and demonstrate technical competency.
Demonstrate flexibility and reliability with work scheduling and assignments.
Follow all Georgetown University and School of Medicine policies and procedures, including confidentiality and privacy.
