The Department of Facilities Services at Tufts University is responsible for the efficient and cost-effective operations, maintenance, and management of all university facilities, encompassing approximately 5 million square feet across three campuses. Services include facility maintenance, capital maintenance, IT systems for operations, energy and utilities, recycling, event services, grounds maintenance, and facility condition assessment. Facilities Services plays a crucial role in managing a significant annual investment in deferred maintenance and collaborates closely with public health and safety, campus planning, and construction departments. This HVAC Mechanic I position reports to facilities management and is responsible for the diagnosis, maintenance, installation, and repair of various HVAC, heating, and filtering equipment to ensure optimal system function. The role requires experience with chillers, package systems, split systems, and equipment for air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, climate, and air quality control. While typically working a regular schedule, the position requires availability for emergency repairs and coverage during critical times like extreme weather or major campus events, classifying it as an essential role.
