Constructs, maintains, and repairs residential air distribution equipment, control devices, and various systems including air conditioning, heating, ventilation, exhaust, heat recovery, and fresh air systems. The role involves inspecting, testing, diagnosing, and dismantling malfunctioning systems and components. Seasonal start-up and shut-down operations are performed to ensure efficient operation and prevent issues. Responsibilities include mounting new equipment, installing, maintaining, cleaning, and repairing furnaces, boilers, and related residential equipment. The mechanic will operate power equipment, hand tools, brazing equipment, and testing equipment. Services and repairs mechanical equipment such as blowers, fans, and exchangers. Conducts and tracks inspections for preventative maintenance, performs repetitive and follow-up repairs. Plans and lays out work, measures, estimates, and requests materials. Overhauls compressors, pumps, and electric motors, replacing parts as needed. Overhauls and replaces control devices, calibrating them as required. Finds solutions to heating service problems. Reads and interprets blueprints, specifications, or written orders. Installs, repairs, and maintains louvers, filters, fans, ductwork, dampers, damper operators, linkage, cabinets, air supply, return and exhaust devices, and distribution boxes, including controls. Installs, repairs, and maintains sheet metal flashing, metal trim, copings, and similar sheet metal construction. Insulates ductwork, air handling cabinets, and equipment. May perform related tasks and assist other craftsmen.
