About The Position

Satellite Services, Inc. is looking for HVAC Mechanics to assist with our contract with Grissom Joint Air Reserve Base, IN. This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt CBA position to start August 1, 2026. The Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning Mechanic installs, services, and repairs environmental-control systems in office buildings and other industrial areas.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years' experience as an HVAC mechanic
  • 4 or more years demonstrated proficiency in the Boilermaker discipline is required
  • Must have good communication skills
  • Have the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Ability to read blueprints, building plans and schematics as required
  • Must be able to read and comply with work orders concerning service, modification, or installation of equipment
  • The ability to use a variety of power tools, hand tools, and meters safely
  • Hands-on ability to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Required to work independently and with limited supervision
  • Comply with all policies, safety guidelines, and procedures; follow all contract specifications and maintain compliance
  • Must be able to maintain regular and acceptable attendance, follow directions, interact well with co-workers, understand and follow posted work rules/procedures
  • Must have a government security clearance or ability to obtain upon hire
  • Universal HVAC Certification required
  • The work environment, while generally hazard free, may include some exposure to dust and varying temperatures
  • This position may require lifting up to 75 pounds with or without assistance
  • Constant walking and standing for extended periods of time may be required
  • Reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, climbing and balancing may be needed
  • Significant hand and finger dexterity is required
  • This position is designated as essential. This means that when the facility is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in this position may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at the facility.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an industrial/commercial environment is preferred
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field desired
  • NCCER Certification a plus

Responsibilities

  • Mounts compressor and condenser units on platform or floor
  • Fabricates, assembles, and installs ductwork and chassis parts
  • Cuts and bends tubing and pipes to correct length and shape; and joins tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings, and soldier joints
  • Installs expansion and discharge valves in circuit
  • Connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilations fans to control panels and connect control panels to power source
  • Install/ Replace air and water filters
  • Injects small amount of refrigerant into compressor to test systems and adds Freon gas to build up prescribed operating pressure
  • Observes pressure and vacuum gauges; adjust as needed
  • Tests joints and connections for gas leaks
  • Clean condenser and evaporator coils
  • Clear drain pans and drain lines to avoid overflows
  • Replace worn pulleys and belts
  • Test thermostats and controls to make sure temperatures and timer functions are set correctly
  • Replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring
  • Construct, assemble, maintain, and repair stationary steam boilers and boiler house auxiliaries
  • Align structures or plate sections to assemble boiler frame tanks or vats
  • Assist in testing assembled vessels
  • Direct cleaning of boilers and boiler furnaces
  • Inspect and repair boiler fittings such as safety valves, regulators, automatic-control mechanisms, water columns, and auxiliary machines
  • Any and all other duties assigned by your Supervisor/Manager/Lead
