The University of Virginia’s Facilities Management Health System Physical Plant is hiring an HVAC professional to provide consistent, cost-effective, and reliable HVAC services and maintenance to the University community. The position will be filled at either the HVAC Mechanic or Senior HVAC Mechanic level, depending on the selected candidate’s credentials and experience. HVAC Mechanics perform journey-level installation, repair, and maintenance on package and central heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Work also includes preventive maintenance, servicing and overhauling large central units, and determining equipment needs. Assignments come from a supervisor, but most work is performed with little supervision. Senior HVAC Mechanics are expected to know current mechanical codes and industry best practices, plan and carry out work safely and productively, make independent decisions, and sometimes organize others on complex tasks. They contribute to team success through respectful conduct, sharing knowledge with coworkers and trainees, positive customer relations, and improving work practices. This is a full-time position with UVA benefits. It offers year-round local work with no travel or seasonal layoffs, and professional development opportunities through licensure support, continuing education, training, and apprenticeship programs. The role supports UVA’s residential community and broader University community.
