HVAC and Plumbing Service Manager

Inch & Co•Huntingdon, PA
•Onsite

About The Position

This is a ground-floor opportunity to shape a service division from scratch. The Service Manager will run service calls early while the foundation is built, transitioning into a more traditional management role as the team matures. No formal preventive maintenance program currently exists — creating one is a core part of this job. The Service Manager will consolidate service responsibilities currently spread across multiple department heads into one unified operation. The Service Manager owns the service side of the business end to end — building the department, developing a PM program from scratch, and managing operations, client relationships, and financials as the program grows.

Requirements

  • 7–10+ years of hands-on commercial HVAC and/or plumbing experience including lead, foreman, or supervisory experience
  • Comfortable performing hands-on technical work in a build-out environment
  • Strong knowledge of commercial mechanical systems, blueprints, and specs
  • OSHA 30 and EPA 608 Certification required (or willingness to obtain within 6 months)
  • Valid driver’s license required

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience building a service line, PM program, or department from scratch
  • Experience with dispatch/scheduling software, job costing, and service contract management
  • Backflow prevention certification
  • NATE Certification
  • Multi-trade coordination experience

Responsibilities

  • Consolidate service responsibilities into a unified department with consistent processes, scheduling, and staffing
  • Develop a PM program from the ground up — schedules, service agreements, documentation, and pricing
  • Partner with estimators to identify new PM and service contract opportunities
  • Manage day-to-day scheduling, dispatch, and prioritization of PM visits, service calls, and emergency response
  • Personally perform service, diagnostics, and repairs in the early stages; review technician diagnostics on complex commercial equipment — rooftop units, boilers, chillers, VAV/VRF systems, backflow prevention, sewer pumps, and grinders
  • Establish on-call rotation for after-hours coverage and coordinate with other department leads on multi-trade jobs
  • Hire, supervise, mentor, and develop HVAC/Plumbing Technicians as the department grows
  • Serve as the primary client contact, ensuring response times, quality, and communication meet expectations
  • Build and maintain service agreements and identify opportunities to expand scope with existing clients
  • Own department financials — labor allocation, job costing, invoicing, and profitability
  • Track and report key service metrics including response time, first-time fix rate, and technician utilization

  • Health insurance (medical, dental, vision)
  • 401k retirement plan
  • Paid holidays and PTO
