About The Position

The HVAC Technician is responsible for the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. This role ensures all building systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with applicable codes and standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in commercial or industrial HVAC maintenance.
  • Valid EPA Section 608 refrigerant handling certification.
  • Strong knowledge of BAS systems, mechanical drawings, and HVAC schematics.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in confined spaces or on rooftops.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical or trade school certification in HVAC preferred.
  • State or city HVAC license.
  • Experience with large commercial systems (chillers, boilers, cooling towers).
  • Familiarity with energy management systems and controls.
  • Pool operator certification (CPO) or equivalent (for facilities with pools).

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair HVAC equipment, including air handlers, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, compressors, VAV boxes, and exhaust fans.
  • Operate and monitor Building Automation Systems (BAS) for temperature, humidity, and system performance control.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC systems to ensure reliable, energy-efficient operation.
  • Maintain and service gas-fired equipment, steam traps, condensate tanks, and water treatment systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical components such as motors, contactors, relays, sensors, and thermostats.
  • Check refrigerant levels, perform leak tests, and recharge systems in compliance with EPA regulations.
  • Maintain cooling towers, condensate water tanks, and ensure proper water chemistry and treatment.
  • Support operation and maintenance of swimming pool HVAC and filtration systems.
  • Enter work orders via district system for building repairs and closeout when complete
  • Respond to service calls, alarms, and occupant comfort issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain accurate service records, logs, and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including lockout/tagout, confined space, and fall protection procedures.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance staff, contractors, and vendors to complete repairs and projects.

  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the administration.
