About The Position

Immanuel Christian Secondary School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic professional educator to join their team as a Humanities Teacher for grades 9 to 12. This is a temporary, full-time position with an expected start date of August 25, 2026, and an end date of June 29, 2027, or until the return of the incumbent. The school offers a distinctively Christian program that integrates faith, learning, and service into the curriculum, challenging students to actively participate in God's story while following the Alberta curriculum and meeting all Alberta Education requirements. Requirements

  • Possess or be eligible to obtain an Alberta Teaching Certificate.
  • Proven competency in teaching the craft of reading and writing.
  • Strong instructional understanding of foundational literacy (Reading and Writing).
  • A police information check, including Vulnerable Sector Check, from Police Services or an RCMP detachment that does not have any charges or convictions.
  • A satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services.
  • Proof of photo identification (e.g., valid driver’s licence, provincial identification card, valid passport, or Nexus card).
  • Documentation of a valid Social Insurance Number in the employee’s legal name.

Nice To Haves

  • Educational background in Humanities (English, Social) (preferred).
  • An understanding of and experience in Christian Education.
  • Applicants are required to submit a philosophy of Christian Education as part of their application.
  • Applicants must provide one reference for their current pastor.

Responsibilities

  • Teach English and Social Studies to grades 9 through 12.
  • Support students in learning.
  • Integrate faith, learning and service into the entire curriculum and program.
  • Challenge students to actively play their role in God's story.
  • Follow the Alberta curriculum and meet or exceed all Alberta Education requirements.
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of diverse learning contexts and the variables that influence student success, including cultural, social, and individual factors.
  • Apply evidence-based pedagogical approaches that reflect current best practices in elementary education.
  • Utilize proficiency in curriculum planning, formative and summative assessment strategies, and differentiated instructional practices that meet diverse learning needs.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies that foster a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment where all students can thrive.
  • Integrate technology purposefully and effectively to enhance teaching and learning experiences.
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning aligned with Alberta's Teaching Quality Standard (TQS).
  • Build and maintain respectful, professional relationships within the school community.
  • Participate in collaborative practice and teamwork with colleagues, students, and families.
  • Contribute actively to school culture, student activities, and extracurricular programs.
  • Develop effective partnerships within the school and broader community.
