About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Use Services (DMHDDSUS), is seeking a Family Services Lead. This role requires deep knowledge of behavioral health systems, experience in large-scale program implementation, and a commitment to improving outcomes for families. The position will drive statewide initiatives to improve mental health, substance use, and justice-involved services for families across North Carolina. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing strategic programs for residential care and integrated behavioral health services, shaping policy and service delivery models that promote equity, access, and innovation, and collaborating with state agencies, providers, advocates, and communities to build a responsive and inclusive system of care. DMH/DD/SUS is dedicated to addressing the needs of North Carolinians seeking mental wellness or living with mental health issues, SUD, TBI, or I/DD, with a focus on advancing tailored interventions for specialized groups.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in the area of assignment from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in a closely related program; or Bachelor's degree in the area of assignment field from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of experience in a closely related program; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other state agencies, providers of services, advocacy groups and other organizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Considerable experience with leading large-scale implementation of behavioral health services and policies.
  • Considerable knowledge of MH/ SU care models.
  • Working knowledge of behavioral health services and systems.

Responsibilities
