About The Position

This position is responsible for providing operational and procedural support to the Newborn Hearing Screening Program in the Division of Children's Medical Services, Bureau of Early Steps and Newborn Screening. The incumbent in this position must be able to work independently, must have the ability to organize and prioritize workload, be capable of ensuring continuity of work in the absence of supervision, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative in the performance of these duties.

Requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of hearing and hearing loss, and language and communication modalities preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Public Health, Epidemiology, Healthcare Administration, or a related degree.
  • One year of professional experience working with hospital patient care and data analytics training and mentoring staff.
  • Two years of experience working in a hospital, physician’s office, medical facility, and/or public health office analyzing health information and preparing statistical reports.
  • At least one year of professional experience which includes customer service, data system experience, and answering office phones and providing detailed information to client.
  • Bilingual with English and Spanish.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary staff conducting follow-up for infants turning six months of age who did not pass the newborn hearing screening and are in the process of being rescreened or diagnosed.
  • Enter hearing screening results, diagnostic results, and/or early intervention data into the data system and complete data system actions.
  • Research current demographics for patients and update their records in the data system. Document correspondences in patient records.
  • Make final case determinations based on established protocols and close cases, as appropriate.
  • Consult with the program audiologist regarding cases that need specialized follow-up for infants older than six months of age.
  • Support the program audiologist to obtain diagnostic hearing results for infants and toddlers awaiting diagnosis passed the typical follow-up period.
  • Assist with first contacts for newborns and infants who do not pass the newborn hearing screen, as necessary.
  • Make phone calls and send emails/letters/faxes to health care professionals and parents for newborns and infants who did not pass the newborn hearing screening.
  • Assist with development of follow-up workflow for infants with prolonged Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) stays with no hearing screening on record.
  • Serve as the primary staff conducting follow-up for infants with prolonged NICU stays with no record of a hearing screen.
  • Lead and participate in continuous quality improvement activities related duties and responsibilities, as required.
  • Participate in various workgroups, meetings and conferences related to newborn hearing screening or as assigned.
  • Follow-up on actions related to these workgroups, meetings, and conferences.
  • Perform other related administrative duties and responsibilities as required.
