About The Position

Fresno City College is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Human Services Instructor. The ideal candidate will have experience and skill in incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into their responsibilities, with a particular focus on supporting racially minoritized students. This role involves teaching, engaging with students from diverse backgrounds, and contributing to the college's mission.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree (MSW) or higher in Social Work; OR a Master's in sociology, psychology, counseling (specifically in marriage and family therapy, rehabilitation counseling or gerontology); OR a valid California Community College Credential; OR the equivalent education and/or experience.
  • At least five years of professional experience of field work in human services, social work, counseling, mental health, crisis intervention, case management, community outreach, substance-use treatment, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated effective teaching experience in Human Services at the college or university level or experience teaching outside of a formal setting.
  • Demonstrated depth, breadth, and mastery in human services as exemplified by educational background.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with computers, and other technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff.
  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.

Nice To Haves

  • Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes.
  • Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students.
  • Related work and professional experience.
  • Experience teaching online (e.g., hybrid, 100% online).
  • Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.

Responsibilities

  • Incorporate elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility.
  • Work with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with disabilities.
  • Utilize computers and other technologies for high-quality instruction and student support.
  • Communicate effectively with students and staff.
  • Teach Human Services at the college or university level, or in alternative settings like community education, psychosocial education groups, professional workshops, and trainings.
  • Teach online courses (hybrid or 100% online).
