About The Position

The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is offering a career growth opportunity for a motivated individual to join the Charles River West Area Office in Waltham as a Human Services Coordinator Supervisor (Human Services Coordinator II). This role involves building collaborative partnerships with individuals, families, guardians, provider agencies, and other stakeholders. The HSC II will provide direct supervision, support, consultation, and orientation to Human Service Coordinator Is (HSC I) and other staff. This position is a critical part of the Area Office management team, contributing to the planning and resource allocation for community services. Responsibilities include planning, prioritizing, and coordinating the work of assigned staff, monitoring Individual Service Plans, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, maintaining case documentation, identifying and escalating critical individual cases (health, safety, risk, changing needs) to the Area Director, and conducting performance planning, feedback, and evaluations for assigned staff. Other duties may include providing coverage for absent HSC Is.

Requirements

  • Ability to supervise, including planning and assigning work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished, the capabilities of subordinates and available resources
  • Ability to control work through periodic reviews and or evaluations
  • Ability to determine subordinates training needs and provide or arrange for such training
  • Ability to motivate subordinates to work effectively
  • Ability to determine the need for disciplinary action and either recommend or initiate action
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgement by making reasoned decisions, acting quickly, and maintaining a calm manner in stressful situations
  • Ability to communicate effectively through verbal and written means
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships
  • Ability to prioritize and respond to multiple demands from which individuals with disabilities and staff
  • Ability to seek guidance and support and take direction from supervisors and clinical consultants when needed
  • Four (4) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, case management or clinical/therapeutic experience
  • Ability to act as an advocate of human rights

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of supervision
  • Knowledge of and skill in the use of personal computers, software, and maintenance of individual records database, through training provided by or arranged by the department
  • Knowledge of documentation necessary for Individualized Service Plans (ISP)
  • Knowledge of DDS and generic programs, services, and resources available to individuals with disabilities

Responsibilities

  • Planning, prioritization, and coordination of work by assigned staff
  • Monitoring of Individual Service Plans
  • Maintaining compliance with all relevant policies and procedures
  • Assuring that case documentation is maintained and consistent with standards
  • Identifying individual cases involving health, safety, risk and changing needs and ensuring that they are brought to the attention of the Area Director or designee(s), while engaging in problem solving
  • Monitoring and providing consistent performance planning, feedback and evaluations to assigned staff
  • Providing coverage if an HSC I is absent from work
